On September 8–9, Ethel Altiery, Interim BFAIR CEO and nearly 300 advocates from 42 states gathered in Washington, DC to advance disability policy.

Day 1 Highlights:

  • Keynotes stressed the urgent need to protect Medicaid and ensure services for people with I/DD.
  • Excellence in Public Policy Awards honored leaders making a difference.
  • Advocates prepared for Hill visits with a deep dive into What’s Next for Disability Policy in the 119th Congress.

Day 2 Highlights:

Kicked off at the Rayburn House Office Building, where Congressman John Mannion shared a personal success story about his son with autism.

Our Massachusetts delegation met with:

Senator Ed Markey

Representative Lori Trahan

Representative James McGovern

Representative Richard Neal

(Plus, a virtual meeting with Senator Elizabeth Warren on 9/15!)

Advocacy focused on:

  1. Investing in Medicaid to protect HCBS for people with I/DD.
  2. Supporting the HCBS Relief Act for critical funding extensions.
  3. Strengthening the DSP workforce through better federal data collection.

Together, we’re raising our voices to ensure services and supports for people with disabilities remain strong for years to come.
